Five Fun Earth Day Ideas for Kids

Earth Day is this Sunday so I’m sharing this round up of Five Fun Earth Day Ideas for Kids.
What is Earth Day?!
Each year, Earth Day — April 22 — marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

On to the fun ideas we go!
Paint, paper plates and little hands are pretty much all you need to create this adorable {and super easy} Handprint Earth that your kiddo will surely be proud of. As an added idea, let the painting dry and have your kiddo write an Earth Day Promise on the back. Examples would be: I won’t litter, I’ll turn out the lights during the day, and I won’t waste water.
Watch Earth, a Disneynature film that tells the remarkable story of three animal families and their amazing journey across the planet we all share.
These Egg Cup Insects are sure to bring a smile to your kiddo’s face as they bring them to life. Help your kiddo give them a name and take them insect exploring in your own backyard.
Make a Dirt Cup Dessert that’ not only yummy, but fun to make! It’s the one time you’ll be okay with your kiddos eating “dirt,” you may even enjoy some yourself.
and finally, the fifth fun Earth Day celebration idea…

CHICKEN NOT PIE? You’re kiddos won’t be expecting this one to be so sweet!

Your kids won’t expect to be stared back at when they open the fridge on April Fools Day! Simply apply googly-eyes on the stuff in your fridge. I’m sure your kiddos will get a kick out of it!

Surprise them with COLORED WATER! They won’t be expecting that one when they go to brush their teeth or wash their hands in the morning.

Puzzle them with ORANGE SLICES that are actually slices of orange jello!

Let them know that you’ll be having brownies after dinner as a special treat… stump them with this awesome BROWN E’s prank! You may want to have some real brownies on hand, just in case!

Are those french fries or CINNAMON-SUGAR STICKS?! Either way, your kids will LOVE them!

How about sending them to school with this GAG LUNCH! Complete with a Can’t Un-Ziplock bag, a Wormy Apple and a Snack Swicharoo!

How To: Make Rainbow Cupcakes

Today, I’ll be doing a how to on making Rainbow Cupcakes! These are a HUGE hit at my house, the kids LOVE them and are always asking me to make them for their classroom parties.

I thought I would share the magic! :)

I say magic because every time that I make them, the kids ask how I do it and my answer is always: magic!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White Cake Batter
  • Food Coloring
  • 5 Cups or Bowls
  • Cupcake Pan
  • Cupcake Liners

Now, the fun part! The directions:

Separate the cake batter into the 5 bowls or cups evenly. Then dye each cup of batter a different color. I used red, blue, green, yellow and purple.

Then, you’ll need to fill your cupcake pan with liners. I used pastel ones, but you can use the aluminum ones to hid the rainbow magic to surprise your kids if you’d like! :)

When you pour your batter, do one color at a time and you’ll need only about a spoonful of each.

Here you’ll see the layer of purple batter:

Do the same with the rest of the colors, you’ll end up with something like this:

 Then, bake!

No special timing or anything, just follow the original recipe for the white cake batter.

Here’s the result!

Super cool, right?! I love looking at them when they’re done!

Next, decorate as you would like!

I usually do white icing and rainbow sprinkles.

Ready to see the inside?!

Amazing! So pretty and so colorful! :)

Put all your decorated Rainbow Cupcakes on a platter and take them to your next party, your kid’s classroom party or any little shindig! I promise they’ll be a HUGE hit!

I hope you all give it a try! :) If you do, snap some pictures and share them on the Fun For EP Kids Facebook page or email them to me at brittany@funforepkids.com and I’ll share them!

I can’t wait to see your colorful, magical Rainbow Cupcakes!

ENJOY!
